The Sixth Word
Jul 14, 2024 • Matt Schiesser
“You shall not murder” is only four words, yet the weight of this commandment reaches to the very heart of human relationships. In this sermon, we explore both the negative and positive aspects of the Sixth Commandment. It’s not only a prohibition against physical murder but a call to put away anger, hatred, and bitterness. Jesus taught that murder begins in the heart, and so this command calls us to love our neighbors, protect the vulnerable, and promote the flourishing of all who bear God’s image. True obedience flows from a new heart—one made alive by the Spirit and shaped by the sacrificial love of Christ, who laid down His life for us.
