The Seventh Word

Jul 21, 2024    Matt Schiesser

The seventh commandment, “You shall not commit adultery,” is more than a rule about sexual behavior—it’s a call to covenant faithfulness rooted in the character of God Himself. In this sermon, we explore how this command protects both the practical and the pictorial purpose of marriage, as a reflection of Christ’s love for His bride, the Church. Jesus deepens this command by showing that lust is the root of adultery, and therefore purity must begin in the heart. God calls His people to reflect His own faithfulness by walking in holiness, honoring marriage, and pursuing purity in body, mind, and spirit. This message challenges cultural norms, exposes sin, and points to Christ’s faithfulness as our only hope for true transformation.
